Italian President Sergio Mattarella and former Slovenian President Borut Pahor will return to Trieste today to receive an honorary degree in law, approximately four years after an historical hand gesture in Basovizza, on the Karst. Pahor was the first Slovenian head of state to pay homage to the victims of the so-called foibe, in front of the Basovizza monument, with Mattarella; then the two presidents did the same in front of the monument to the Slovenians shot by the fascists, again hand in hand.
