(ANSA) - BELGRADE, MAR 1 - According to a new Greenpeace
report, the EastMed gas pipeline could lead to war and
exacerbate the climate crisis. The pipeline would increase the
risk of armed conflict in an already militarized region by
passing through contested maritime borders between Greece,
Turkey, and the divided island of Cyprus, according to
Greenpeace. If built, the EastMed pipeline could generate
greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to 27 million tonnes of CO2
per year, after accounting for energy consumption,
transportation, and leakage. Furthermore, the pipeline could
also become a clear military target, as evidenced by the 2022
attacks on the NordStream pipeline connecting Russia and
Germany, Greenpeace claimed. (ANSA).
