Vassil Terziev, a tech
entrepreneur and start-up investor, has been elected as Sofia's
new mayor, ending the conservative GERB party's 18-year reign,
according to run-off results released by the Central Election
Committee on Monday, as reported by Balkan Insight. "Thank you
for looking up and seeing Sofia through hope's eyes," Terziev
said on social media. Terziev received 48.2% of the vote. Vanya
Grigorova, a left-wing worker's rights and pro-Russian activist,
came in second place with 46.9 percent. Only 34.2 per cent of
Sofia voters cast ballots.
