The run-off elections for the local
elections are being held today in Bulgaria after the first round
last Sunday. The polls are open from 7am local time till 8pm
(6am-7pm Italian time) for the election of the mayors of over
five hundred municipalities and districts.
The ballots also concern nineteen of the 28 regional capitals,
including Sofia.
In Sofia, millionaire Vassil Terziev won 31.8% in the first
round, supported by the ruling liberal party 'We continue the
change' (PP). His rival, the trade unionist Vania Grigorova, who
enjoys the support of the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) had
obtained 21.59% of the vote.
