Orsini is set to become the new head of Italy's powerful
industrial association Confindustria after being nominated
president at a meeting of its general council on Thursday.
Orsini, who was born in 1972 in Sassuolo, is the CEO of Sistem
Costruzioni, a firm specialized in wood construction.
So he does not come from a big industrial group, but one of the
small-and-medium-sized enterprises that form the backbone of the
Italian economy.
Orsini was the only candidate after Edoardo Garrone dropped out
of the running on Wednesday.
He won the votes of 147 of the173 delegates at the council.
"I'll try to win over the 26 who didn't vote for me," Orsini
said, according to sources present at the meeting.
He will formally be elected as president for the 2024-2028
period at Confindustria's assembly on May 23.
He replaces Carlo Bonomi, whose four-year term is coming to an
end.
