"A new path begins today, with 17
municipalities involved, mostly Italian, located in the Karst
and with the Slovenian linguistic minority, with the aim to
collaborate to create an instrument that can attract public
funding to improve this part of the territory," said Friuli
Venezia Giulia's regional councillor for local authorities,
Pierpaolo Roberti, introducing the project for the establishment
of the European Territorial Cooperation Group "Kras-Carso"
today. The process began today with the signing of a letter of
intent in Trieste, in which the 17 Italian and Slovenian
municipalities agreed to develop shared actions for the
sustainable development of the cross-border area of Classic
Karst, supporting the slow tourism industry, and, more broadly,
strengthening the EU's economic, social, and territorial
cohesion by overcoming internal market obstacles.
