(ANSA) - ROME, JUN 9 - Some of the migrant stowaways armed
with four to five knives allegedly attempted to enter the bridge
of a Turkish vessel heading for France with the intention of
hijacking the ship, sources said Friday.
The timely intervention of the San Marco Battalion foiled the
intention of the stowaways, who were shot at before holing up in
the vessel, Defence Minister Guido Crosetto said.
"What is known about the hijackers is hat they were illegal
immigrants who got onto the Turkish ship and using weapons, such
as daggers, took control of the ship, but we haven't been able
to capture them yet so we're not sure.
"The San Marco battalion had to intervene.
"The ship has now been recaptured but still not secured because
the men who seized it are still holed up inside.
"Let's hope it ends as quickly as possible without consequences
for anyone". (ANSA).
