EC technical experts in Rome on June 12 for NRRP review

'Planned visit, constructive exchange with Italy'

(ANSA) - ROME, JUN 9 - Technical experts from the European Commission (EC) will be in Rome starting Monday for planned meetings to review Italy's EU-funded post-Covid National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP), an EC spokesperson said on Friday.
"We expect that the discussions will focus on payment requests, as well as on the way forward for the revision of the plan and the RePoweEu chapter," said the spokesperson.
Brussels "has a constant constructive exchange with all member states, including Italy, on the implementation of their plans," added the spokesperson, saying since the start of implementation "this process includes regular meetings to discuss progress".
Italy is awaiting payment by the EU of the delayed third installment of funding for projects in support of technological innovation and the ecological transition, amid concerns that the scheme has got bogged down in delays and that some of the targets cannot be met by the 2026 deadline.
It also needs to submit an additional chapter to the NRRP detailing projects to be carried out under the RePowerEU funding programme promoting measures to save energy, produce clean energy and diversify energy supplies.
On Thursday the government said in its quarterly report on the progress of the NRRP that it had encountered many obstacles in the implementation of the plan.
