US President Joe Biden and Premier
Mario Draghi had a phone conversation on the Ukraine situation
overnight in which the two leaders "reaffirmed their commitment
to the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine" and
their readiness to impose "severe economic costs if Russia
invades," the White House said.
Biden and Draghi spoke of the "diplomatic efforts and deterrence
that are ongoing in response to the continual reinforcement of
the Russian military presence on the borders with Ukraine," the
White House said.
Biden will brief EU and NATO allies on the situation Friday amid
US fears that an invasion is looming, possibly after a false
flag operation in eastern Ukraine where pro-Russian separatists
have started clashing with Ukraine forces and Moscow claims a
"genocide" is being perpetrated.
