Female employment in Italy fell for
the first time since 2013 in 2020, the year the COVID pandemic
struck, accrding to the latest gender balance report.
The nationwide female employment rate fell to 49% while there
were sharper drops in the poorer south of Italy and among young
women, the report said.
That compares to a female employment rate of 62.7% in the EU.
Women with children were 25% less employed than their childfree
counterparts.
The growth in female-led businesses also slowed in 2020 after
constant growth since 2014, the report said.
And there has been scant improvement in the ranks of women
business leaders, with no female CEO of major bourse-listed
firms in 2020.
