(ANSA) - BELGRADE, NOV 30 - The first European international
customs corridor, connecting the port of Trieste in Italy with
the Fürnitz freight terminal in Carinthia, Austria, will open in
January. The containers will be transferred directly from the
ship to the cargo train, which will travel through Northern and
Central Europe without being checked by customs until it reaches
Austria. This is a significant benefit for goods, as they will
travel faster and with fewer administrative procedures and
costs, allowing for greater sea-rail intermodality. At the port
of Trieste, security and mandatory checks, such as health
checks, will be performed. The collaboration includes BB,
Austrian railways (via the Rail Cargo Group), the Port System
Authority of the Eastern Adriatic Sea, Adriafer, the Italian and
Austrian Customs Authorities, and the Carinthia Government. The
Italian ambassador to Austria, Stefano Beltrame, and Austrian
Finance Minister Magnus Brunner will be present at the signing
of the agreement tomorrow in Vienna. (ANSA).
