The aim is to conquer a new
"audience" for genre cinema, including horror, thriller, and
science fiction, that is a production that "marks the richness
of the film industry." Six cinemas in Italy and three in
Slovenia have set themselves this goal by designing the project
"Grindhouse - The New European Genre Cinema is coming," one of
the 13 selected, among the 28 presented, within the "Collaborate
to Innovate," the Europa Cinemas program, launched in 2021,
funded by Creative Europe and built on the three core ideas of
innovation, collaboration, and sustainability. The CEC, Centro
Espressioni Cinematografiche of Udine, which takes part in the
project with its Cinema Visionario, announced the plan today.
The other partners are Cinemazero in Pordenone, Ariston in
Trieste, Cinema Classico in Turin, Cinema Astra in Florence,
Kinemax in Gorizia, Kosovelov Dom in Sežana, Mestni Kino Domžale
and Kino Mali Union in Celje, Slovenia.
The movies, the organizers announced, will be the
protagonists "of a real competition imagined as a tournament
with 'semi-finals' and 'finals' competitions, and eight films
will be selected, divided into two groups of four, and the
winners of the two groups will compete in the final." After
that, the public will decide between March and April 2023.
