Croatia: Plenkovic,von der Leyen in Zagreb on January 1

To celebrate the country's entry into Eurozone and Schengen

(ANSA) - ZAGREB, DEC 16 - The EC President, Ursula von der Leyen, will be in Croatia on January 1 to celebrate the country's entry into the eurozone and the Schengen area of free movement of people.

Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković told the press that to mark and celebrate these two important events, President von der Leyen will be in Zagreb on the first day of 2023.

Yesterday at the EU summit in Brussels, the European Council welcomed Croatia's accession to the Schengen area finally approved on December 8.

The adoption of the euro was approved in July. Croatia, a member of the EU since 2013 and the last country to join the union, will thus become the 20th state in the eurozone and the 28th in the Schengen area. (ANSA).
