Albin Kurti, the premier of
Kosovo, emphasised that the poor voter turnout in yesterday's
municipal elections in northern Kosovo is related to the
atmosphere of "intimidation and blackmail" brought on, in his
opinion, by the Belgrade authorities. "A climate of intimidation
predominated, which led to low voter turnout in the elections.
The Belgrade leadership and its criminal minions operating in
the north used a campaign of threats to drive the boycott (of
Serbs). I appreciate the folks' bravery and composure, Kurti
stated in a statement made public by Pristina-based local media.
