Expo Dubai:UAE to attempt 5 world records for New Year's Eve

But rain may dampen 2022's arrival

Redazione ANSA

(ANSAmed) - DUBAI, 31 DIC - The UAE's thirst for records will be seen this New Year's Eve as well, with the country trying to break five world records through its celebrations for the arrival of 2022.
Rain - which is unusual in the country - meanwhile threatens to dampen the festivities.
According to the state-run WAM news agency, Abu Dhabi will stage a 40-minute fireworks show as part of the Sheikh Zayed Festival, which will try to beat three Guinness World Records in terms of volume, duration, and form.
Also the Ras Al Khaimah emirate would like to set a record for the arrival of 2022, with a fireworks show lasting 12 minutes over an area of 4.7 kilometers.
The event aims to set two world records: The first attempt will be for the Most Remote Operated Multirotors / Drones Launching Fireworks Simultaneously and the second attempt is for the Highest Altitude Multirotor / Drone Firework Display.
Meanwhile, in Dubai there will be 36 shows in 29 different places, with two fireworks displays at Expo 2020 Dubai and the eagerly awaited fireworks display at the highest building in the world, Burj Khalifa.
With everything ready for the arrival of the new year, rain also seems ready to ruin the festivities.
After a drought of two years, with rain mostly limited to the country's northern emirates, storms are forecast for Dubai and Abu Dhabi over the night and more rain is expected for this evening and tomorrow in other parts of the UAE.
Dubai residents woke to thunder and lightning on Friday and rain lasted for 90 minutes around 3 AM local time, with a second downpour after 11 AM.
Media reports state that rain is expected around 11 PM in the evening, while on Saturday there will be intermittent downpours for the entire day, according to the national meteorological center.
The New Zealand pavilion has already become the first to ring in the new year. (ANSAmed).
