F1: Binotto steps down as Ferrari team principal

53-year-old quits after another disappointing season

(ANSA) - ROME, NOV 29 - Ferrari said Tuesday that Mattia Binotto had resigned as the team principal of its Formula One team and would leave the position at the end of the year.
After working his way up within Ferrari, Binotto replaced Maurizio Arrivabene to take the helm in 2019.
But his arrival failed to end the Italian glamour team's long run without a title victory.
Ferrari made a strong start to the 2022 campaign but quickly faded and came a distant second in both the drivers' and constructors' championships, with Charles Leclerc finishing 146 points behind Red Bull's world champion Max Verstappen.
"With the regret that this entails, I have decided to conclude my collaboration with Ferrari," Binotto, 53, said in a statement.
"I am leaving a company that I love, which I have been part of for 28 years, with the serenity that comes from the conviction that I have made every effort to achieve the objectives set.
"I leave a united and growing team. A strong team, ready, I'm sure, to achieve the highest goals, to which I wish all the best for the future.
"I think it is right to take this step at this time as hard as this decision has been for me". (ANSA).
