Italy's central Apennine regions, hit
by a crippling lack of snow that is threatening the future of
tourism down the spine of Italy, are to meet with Tourism
Minister Daniela Santanché next Wednesday to discuss ways to end
or ease the crisis, sources said Thursday.
Representatives of the regional governments of Abruzzo, Emilia
Romagna and Tuscany will attend the meeting at the ministry in
Rome, while delegations from more southerly Apennine regions are
also welcome, the sources said.
Talks will focus on cushioning the impact of the chronic lack of
snow on skiing facilities and also on ways to modernize ski
structures and artificial snow plants, with the creation of a
special fund for the mountains, political sources said.
"The working table that will be set up aims to draw up a special
and unprecedented package of aid," said the national coordinator
for the Apennine snow crisis.
