Police in Caltanissetta on Wednesday
arrested a middle-schoolteacher on suspicion of repeatedly
molesting an 11-year-old girl student, local sources said.
The man, who works in a state school, was placed under house
arrest.
The alleged victim found the courage to report the man to
another teacher who then informed the deputy head at the end of
June, but no action was taken.
The girl then told her parents who immediately informed the
local flying squad.
Over the course of a few days the police collected evidence from
the girl's fellow students who told them of her descriptions of
the alleged abuse and also of the man's alleged suspicious
behaviour and sexist remarks in class.
He allegedly swore at pupils and made inappropriate comments
about their appearance.
The alleged victim was then questioned by a preliminary
investigations judge (GIP) in the presence of a psychologist.
The deputy head who took no action on the teachers' report has
been cited for failure to report a crime.
