Some 4% of Italy's new smokers try
e-cigarettes at elementary school, according to a new survey by
the Higher Health Institute (ISS) and the Italian Society of
Childhood Respiratory Illnesses (SIMRI), presented at the
society's annual congress Tuesday.
The study, which involved 170,000 Italian students aged 15-19,
showed one-time traditional cigarette smokers down slightly
between 2012 and 2018 but one-time e-cig smokers up from 32.9%
to 52%.
Some 43.4% of youngsters tried e-cigs at middle school while
4.1% had already done so at elementary school, the study showed.
