German court rules against government in debt rules case

Overturned decision to transfer 60 billion euros

15 November, 12:25

(ANSA-AFP) - FRANKFURT AM MAIN, NOV 15 - Germany's top court ruled Wednesday against the government in a case centred on whether it had broken key debt rules, potentially upending its spending plans and further fuelling tensions in the ruling coalition. The Federal Constitutional Court overturned a decision to transfer 60 billion euros ($65 billion) of loan authorisations that had been part of pandemic support programmes to a fund aimed at fighting climate change.
