Vaccines: Sputnik production in Serbia to begin in June
The country aims to become a 'vaccine powerhouse.
15 April, 16:57Speaking at this Institute after the delivery of 20,000 AstraZeneca doses to the Bosnian Serb leader Milorad Dodik, Vucic underlined the importance of new investments in the health sector and to produce vaccines.
Yesterday at the 'Torlak' production plan of the Sputnik V vaccine was symbolically kicked off in Serbia with the first test vials of Russian serum.
Serbia, Vucic remarked, will produce up to 20-30 million doses per year, enough to meet its domestic needs and those of the rest of the region. Because, he said, "we cannot stay healthy if everyone else around us is sick." The 'Torlak' Institute itself already produces vaccines against tetanus, diphtheria, and other infectious diseases. The goal, the president, added, is to constantly increase production capacities to make Serbia a real 'powerhouse' in vaccine production over the next 10-12 years.
In addition to the Russian Sputnik V vaccine, the Balkan country will also produce the Sinopharm Chinese vaccine in situ, thanks to a deal reached with the Chinese government. (ANSA).
