Finnish statesman and Nobel Laureate Ahtisaari passes away

(ANSA) - BELGRADE, OCT 16 - Martti Ahtisaari, Finland's former President, Nobel Peace Prize winner, and founder of the Martti Ahtisaari Peace Foundation (CMI), died at the age of 86.
    The announcement was made by CMI in an official statement.
    Ahtisaari's diplomatic legacy includes his role as United Nations Special Envoy, appointed in late 2005 by then-Secretary-General Kofi Annan to lead negotiations on Kosovo's status. Ahtisaari presented his plan for Kosovo's future to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon in 2007. Kosovo declared its independence from Serbia in 2008. (ANSA).
