Czech Republic, toward a toll to enter downtown Prague
It should come into force next year
30 August, 18:50
(ANSA) - PRAGUE, 30 AGO - From next year, motorists could be
asked to pay a daily toll of 200 crowns (8 euros) to access the
Mala Strana district and Smetanovo nabrezi, one of the banks of
the Vltava near Charles Bridge, in central Prague.
The news was reported by city councilor Vojtech Ryvola,
pointing out that the project, aimed at reducing the number of
cars in Prague's center and facilitating streetcar traffic, is
still under discussion.
The project proposed by Prague's first district city hall has
been criticized by the administrations of some of the capital's
suburbs. Zdenek Hrib, Prague's deputy mayor in charge of
transportation, clarified that the tax would not apply to
residents or businesses. He also underlined that the measure
will affect only the two designated localities, not the entire
first borough. (ANSA).
