Arrivals increased after Zagreb joined Schengen

(ANSA) - LIUBLIJANA, 20 SET - Despite increased migration
flows, Slovenia does not intend to reintroduce border controls
at its border with Croatia. According to Undersecretary of State
at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Marko Štucin, the government
in Ljubljana is currently not considering introducing controls
at the southern border despite the increase in illegal
crossings.
Štucin wants Croatia and other Western Balkan countries to do
everything possible to curb immigration. After Zagreb joined
Schengen at the beginning of this year, the number of migrants
intercepted on Slovenian territory has risen sharply.
Meanwhile, the conservative Slovenian Democratic Party (SDS),
the main opposition force, is proposing the immediate convening
of an emergency meeting of the National Security Council to
address the migration issue within the broader framework of the
country's security. (ANSA).
