A 18-year-old school pupil is dead after being crushed by a falling iron beam at an engineering company on Friday on the last day of a work-experience project in Lauzacco, near Udine.
It is only the latest in an alarming spate of fatal workplace accidents in Italy.
Pietro Curzio, the head of the supreme Court of Cassation, said Friday 1,000 people died in workplace accidents in the first 10 months of 2021, describing the figure as "unacceptable".
