Napoli coach Luciano Spalletti said
on Monday he had told club owner Aurelio De Laurentiis that he
needed to step back for a year because he is tired and wants to
spend time with his daughter.
"I told De Laurentiis right away out of respect for the club
that I need to stay put for a year, I'm a bit tired and I want
to be with my daughter Matilde,'' said Spalletti in relation to
Sunday's announcement by the Napoli owner that the coach would
step down at the end of the season and take a one-year
sabbatical.
"Sometimes out of love you leave,'' added the coach, who has
recently taken Napoli to their third victory in Italy's Serie A
championship, also ensuring the team a place in next season's
UEFA Champions League.
''A city like Naples does deserves much more than ordinary
things. It deserves things that require us to ask ourselves if
we are still able to make them available or not. Since I don't
think that is the case I am taking a small step back," concluded
Spalletti.
