The number of confirmed deaths in the
February 26 migrant boat shipwreck off Cutro in Italy's
southern Calabria region rose to 91 on Sunday after rescuers
found the body of a man thought to be around 30.
The body was in an advanced stage of decomposition.
Approximately 10 people are still thought to be missing
following the shipwreck, which occurred exactly a month ago when
a fishing boat thought to be carrying 180 refuges and migrants
ran aground and broke up in rough seas a short distance from the
shore after four days' sailing from Turkey.
80 people survived.
On Saturday Cutro Mayor Antonio Ceraso, Interior Ministry
Undersecretary Wanda Ferro and two survivors unveiled a memorial
to the victims of the shipwreck.
"May our thoughts and an act of love be dedicated each day to
the memory of the dead and to the survivors ," reads the
inscription on the monument, adding that the shipwreck "reminds
us to exercise a sense of humanity, solidarity and welcome in
the name of our neighbour and the highest ideal of human
brotherhood".
The ceremony was followed by a concert performed by the Calabria
Symphony Orchestra.
